
Call for Application: Women Peace Ambassador Initiative at WPC, JKKNIU
Centre for Peace and Justice, Brac University is pleased to invite applications from interested Women Peace Café Members of Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University, Trishal, Mymensingh (JKKNIU) to get involved in its new initiative titled as “Women Peace Ambassador” supported by UN WOMEN.
About Women Peace Ambassador Initiative:
Women Peace Ambassador (WPA) is a cutting-edge initiative to secure the peace off and online: engaging women in promoting peace, and social cohesion in the era of COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 20 Women Peace Café members of JKKNIU will be selected through a competitive process as Peace Ambassadors. The selected WPAs will be given seed funds to implement 4 innovative projects in 4 communities as a pilot. They will also be given technical guidance and mentorship support to engage another 75 female students/community girls and women with the WPA led activities. Under this WPA initiative, there is a provision of materials support for 150 vulnerable community women to enhance their COVID-19 resilience. After successful implementation of these 4 small projects as a group, every WPA will receive an experience certificate.

Duration: September 2020 – February 2021 (including project design phase)
Target audience: Students of JKKNIU and adjacent community girls and women
About Women Peace Café:
Women Peace Café (WPC) is an innovative and pioneering initiative of the Centre for Peace and Justice of Brac University (CPJ) to engage female students of universities where Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University, Trishal, Mymensingh is one of them. The aim of the WPC is to engage female students in the promotion of peace and social cohesion by developing their capacity. CPJ has been implementing this programme funded by UN WOMEN since 2018. The Women Peace Café of JKKNIU is a female student-led organisation which was formally launched on 28 November 2019 supported by Empowered Women, Peaceful Communities Project of UN WOMEN. Initially, WPC started its journey with 158 female students who received a 3-day training on ‘Peace, Social Cohesion, and Women Entrepreneurship’. Later, the WPC was opened for all female students of the university including male students as volunteers or associate members. The WPC has already proved its leadership by engaging youth in various innovative activities and events like peace and tolerance adda (informal discussion), debate, drawing and photography competition, rally, seminar, training, workshop, discussion meeting, social media campaign, and cultural events among others.
Who can apply?
- Any member of WPC at JKKNIU
- Minimum 6-12 months experience of voluntary works or extra-curricular activities
- Potential leadership ability with innovative ideas
- Strong commitment with vision and mission of WPC initiatives
- Have a compatible device (e.g. smartphone, laptop, desktop) with an internet connection
